Our ingredient philosophy is: “As many as needed, as few as possible.” We source from suppliers as close to Sonoma as we can, using organic botanical ingredients whenever possible. Our products are vegan and free from Parabens, Artificial Colors or Dyes, Sulfates and Phthalates.
Ingredient Glossary:
Almond Oil Organic (Prunus amygdalus dulcis) – is cold-pressed from the nuts of the Almond tree. The Almond oil used in these formulations has not gone through a refining, bleaching, or deodorization process. The oil contains nourishing and soothing properties, and it is an effective emollient that restores moisture in the body.
Aloe Leaf Juice Organic (Aloe barbadensis) – known for its gentle soothing and non-oily moisturizing properties as well as its ability to decrease inflammation and remove dead skin cells.
Avocado Oil Organic (Persea gratissima) – rich in vitamins A, C, D & D, as well as the essential fatty acid Oleic Acid.
Calendula Officinalis Oil – has anti-inflammatory properties, and is known to combat dry skin.
Carrot Seed Oil (Daucus carota sativa) – Carrot seed oil is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant and is good for general skin health. It is believed to reduce wrinkles, minimize aging spots and improve elasticity and skin tone. It is rich in beta-carotene and vitamins A & E.
Cedarwood Essential Oil (Cedrus atlantica) – known to be balancing, soothing & toning.
Clary Sage Essential Oil (Salvia sclarea L.) – known to promote calm and relaxation, reduce stress, relax muscles, promote hormonal balance and sleep.
Coconut Oil Organic (Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride) – extracted from the meat of the coconut. It is high in saturated fatty acids, primarily Lauric Acid.
Cocoa Butter Organic (Theobroma cacao) – extracted from the cacao bean, it is then deodorized to reduce the strong natural chocolate aroma. Cocoa butter is known for its high oxidative stability as a result from being naturally rich in antioxidants and vitamin E. In skincare, it is used for its natural emollient properties, and for bringing stiffness to salves and balms.
Emulsifying Wax NF – Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol (Natural fatty alcohol from Coconut Oil) & Polysorbate 60 (Sugar alcohol found in fruits and plants). Used to promote emulsification and stability to lotions. Helps bond oils and water based ingredients.
Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus radiata A.) – cleansing and antiseptic, Eucalyptus oil is known to have a refreshing effect on tiredness and concentration.
Grapefruit, Pink Essential Oil (Citrus paradisi Macfadyen) – cooling and gently antiseptic, grapefruit oil is engergizing and uplifting.
Grape Seed Oil (Vitis Vinifera) – a rich source of bioflavonoids and antioxidants. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and is believed to tighten skin and improve elasticity.
Jojoba Oil Organic (Simmondsia chinensis) – Jojoba is a desert shrub native to the southwestern United States. Jojoba oil comes from the plant’s seeds. Known for its long-chain monosaturated wax esters, jojoba mimics natural skin oils leaving the skin feeling luxuriously moisturized, without any greasiness. It naturally contains Vitamins E and B, as well as antioxidants and minerals like chromium, copper and zinc that moisturize and rejuvenate tired and weathered skin. It is also anti-microbial.
Lavender Essential Oil Organic (Lavandin grosso) – with its clean, fresh scent and calming, balancing properties, Lavender essential oil is known to relax the mind, soothe tension and anxiety, and evoke calmness and composure. On the skin, it is cleansing and detoxifying.
Lemongrass Essential Oil (Cymbopogan flexuosus) – has a wonderfully fresh, citrus-like, herbaceous grassy aroma, and is known to be toning on the skin.
Olive Oil Organic (Olea europaea) – derived from the fruit of the olive tree, it is high in oleic acid and is readily absorbed by the skin. An ideal emollient, containing rich amount of vitamins A and E, as well as minerals and antioxidants, it naturally conditions and moisturizes the skin, and is believed to contribute to skin elasticity.
Optiphen (Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol) – a paraben-free and formaldehyde-free preservative used in lotions. Phenoxyethanol is a synthetic preservative that has global approval for use in skincare products. Capryl Glycol is a common component of many creams and ointments, where it is used as a skin-conditioning agent. It is also known to have some antimicrobial ability.
Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha x piperita L. var. Willamette) – naturally cleanses the skin and has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It has a cooling effect which soothes irritation and inflammation.
Rose Geranium Essential Oil Organic (Pelargonium graveolens var. roseum) – has a fresh green soft floral aroma with lemony, rose-like notes. It is believed to tighten and firm the skin and boost blood circulation, promoting healing and even skin tone.
Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosemarinus officinalis) – is a powerful antioxidant known for its antibacterial and skin-toning properties. It has a fresh penetrating woody herbaceous aroma fragrant.
Shea Butter Organic (Butyrospermum parkii) – comprised of fatty acids such as oleic, stearic, linoleic and palmitic. These unique fatty acids make shea butter a highly effective emollient, rich in vitamins A, E and F. Shea butter is known to contribute to skin elasticity and to healing, nourishing and moisturizing chapped and cracked skin.
Squalane Oil – is made from squalene, which is an organic compound naturally found in olive oil. It is also a natural occurring component of human sebum, which makes it a highly effective emollient and moisturizer.
Stearic Acid – derived from a vegetable based fat source, it is a natural fatty acid used to thicken, emulsify and stabilize lotions.
Sunflower Oil-Virgin-High Oleaic Organic (Helianthus annuus) – virgin seed oils retain more of the natural characteristics of the orginal seed making this oil rich in naturally occurring vitamin E.
Vegetable Glycerin Organic – a natural product derived from vegetable oils. It is a viscous oil that provides smoothness and lubrication to lotions.
Vitamin E – Natural Non-GMO (Tocopheryl Acetate) – the active ingredient in this oil is D-alpha tocopheryl acetate, an acetate ester of acetic acid and tocopherol, which is more stable than non-acetate forms of tocopherol. Vitamin E’s derivatives are broken into Tocopherols and Tocotrienols, and each group has four homologues, named alpha, beta, gamma and delta. This form of vitamin E is used to naturally preserve polyunsaturated fatty acids from oxidation. It known for its antioxidant properties, and moisturizing properties when applied topically.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (Cananga odorata var. Genuina) – the name means “flower of flowers.” Its fragrance has a calming effect, creating a sense of relaxed well-being.
